|WELCOME to Block of the Month (BOM)
Block of the Month 2019
The theme of the 2019 Block of the Month is Barn Quilts. Although barns were frequently
painted as advertisement, barn quilts are a relatively recent phenomenon. Historic barns,
outbuildings and freestanding displays feature colorful displays painted by local
volunteers and barn owners. Stars are the most popular motif maybe owing to the fact
that the first barn quilt is believed to be an Ohio Star.
Members will construct two blocks from the same pattern. The first "pin up" and drawing
will be in February.
Directions are provided for both the Go! Cutter and traditional rotary cutting.
Don't have a Go! Cutter? Members can bring their fabric cut to the measurements given
in the Go! instructions to Sew Time before the meeting. Go! Cutters with the appropriate
dies will be available.
Block 1: Poinsettia - January/February
Block 2: Pinwheel - March/April
Block 3: Star Puzzle - May/June
Block 4: Alice's Choice - July/August
Block 5: Woven Star - September/October
Block 6: Star of England - November
Block 7: Lemoyne Star - Prep Instructions & Assembly Instructions
An optional workshop was held before the guild meeting on August 19th. If you would still
like to make this block using the Go! Cutter, contact Linda Neikam or Mary Oerhrlein.
This additional block will be helpful if you decide to set your blocks on point.
We will display your interpretation of each block at the meeting. Those who complete
blocks will be entered into a raffle to win a prize. Don't forget to take your blocks
home at the end of the meeting - you'll need them to assemble your quilt at the
end of the year!
There will have be a limited number of printed instructions at each meeting. If you have the
capacity to receive these instructions electronically, please do not take a printed copy.
The instruction have been scanned in a PDF format and will be emailed to those
members that have email addresses listed in the membership list. Let’s save a few trees
while we’re at it.
